New Water Safety Signs Installed
I noticed today two similar but different water safety signs Horizons Regional Council have put up. One at the footbridge has advice about swimming in estuaries. The other was by the south track to the beach off Reay Mackay Grove and has advice about swimming in the sea. Signs include a warning about bacteria — seldom a problem at our beach, but an ongoing problem in the river. There are warnings about currents, driftwood and keeping children within arm’s length, and also the advice to not swim within 72 hours of heavy or prolonged rainfall.

A new Tsunami Safe Zone road marking, a blue line, has been painted near the intersection of Waikawa Beach Road with Takapu Road. This is about 1 Km closer to SH1 than the previous line that was painted back in August 2017. The new line looks a lot fresher and a bit snazzier, but I was wondering why it had been moved so I asked the Horowhenua District Council.
