Toilet Block Official Opening 3 Pm Saturday 17 December 2022
The fence is gone, the doors are open: the toilet block at Hank Edwards Reserve is finally open for use. Next comes the Official Opening, at 3 pm on Saturday 17 December 2022. You’re all invited! Stephan Titze, HDC Parks and Property Project Lead | Kaihautū Kaupapa Papa Rēhia, Rawa is organising an opening followed by a BBQ to celebrate this new toilet block. The last block served the community for about 60 years.

The invasive pest plant Acacia longifolia, more commonly called Sydney golden wattle, is a problem on our coastline. Back in December 2021 Horowhenua District Council advised that they would remove various of these trees from around the village and also asked: if people have wattle on their properties, if they would consider removing it to help stop the acacia from spreading in the community and coastal reserves. The work in the village went ahead, but the plant is also in the dunes.

A new Tsunami Safe Zone road marking, a blue line, has been painted near the intersection of Waikawa Beach Road with Takapu Road. This is about 1 Km closer to SH1 than the previous line that was painted back in August 2017. The new line looks a lot fresher and a bit snazzier, but I was wondering why it had been moved so I asked the Horowhenua District Council.
